In the summer of 1998, Andrew Hines and Alex van Helvoort launched their small filmmaking endeavor with the creation of Urban Peace Division. Since their simple beginnings, Andrew and Alex's passion for film has continued to grow with an insatiable fervor for the medium. Alex has since moved on to pursue his own creative endevours, though Andrew has continued as creative head for the production company. Andrew is constantly developing numerous new projects and ventures with a variety of visual artists, musicians and creative minds from around the globe. Most recently, Andrew has produced a press-kit video for British artist Dave White, to promote the release of his new clothing line, and is shooting both video and photography for the Canadian based clothing line Binbin. There are three seperate music video projects that have been put on hiatus for the time being, due to Andrew Hines' departure this fall from Halifax, as he is moving to Los Angeles.
Future plans for Urban Peace Division include a project with Canadian Rock musician, Matt Mays, and a handful of projects that are developing in Los Angeles. Hines is attending the American Film Institutecurrently to complete a Masters degree in directing. The degree will see him relocated to Los Angeles for at least the next three years.
Urban Peace Division and a few collaborators, have been working on a feature length script for the past eight months. That piece is slated to begin filming on the 25th of August, 2009.
